NOSTALGIA IN FEENAGH
Feenagh ICA organisers issue an open invitation to all past and present members, together with all interested ladies in the locality, to join with them for a night of nostalgia in the local Community Centre on Tuesday next May 5th.Commencing with a cheese and wine reception at 8pm there will be no shortage of opportunities to go down ‘Bóthairín na Smaointe’with an organisation which has been in this West Limerick community for over forty years. Articulate and well-travelled women, they have held positions, not alone in their own guild, but also at Federation level. Former VCO Irene Ryan was the West Limerick co-ordinator during the ACWW conference in Killarney in 1986 and was instrumental in ensuring that visiting delegates, many from abroad, were introduced to Irish hospitality and West Limerick entertainment. Always interested in travel another member Pauline Power was a natural choice as Federation International Officer, a role that she excelled in. Bringing foreign travel to ICA with visits to Vienna and Brussels, she was a forerunner of the organisers of many trips abroad, which are now an accepted part of Limerick Federation. Pauline continued her travelling interest nearer to home in a subsequent Federation role as An Grianán Teachta and over the past few years brought several groups to this Learning Centre in Co Louth.
The promotion and development of crafts was always a priority with this rural guild. Their current Guild President Mary Lynch and Federation Craft Officer Patricia Cronin have contributed in no small way to this ethos and in recent times have ensured that many lesser known crafts e.g. Mountmellick work and tatting are kept alive and being continued.
Stepping down from their current roles will not diminish the interest and expertise of these ladies who, no doubt, will continue to lead by example and assist the Feenagh ICA Guild towards their golden jubilee in a few years time.
