Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending Sept 7th

“When all the others were away at Mass
I was all hers as we peeled potatoes.
They broke the silence, let fall one by one.
………………………..
I remember her head bent towards my head,
Her breath in mine, our fluent dipping knives –
Never closer the whole rest of our lives.”
                            Seamus Heaney
The poet Seamus Heaney RIP who passed away last week gave us all the opportunity to value the simple things in life. In this lovely poem which he wrote on the death of his mother he remembers that quality time he spent with his mother on an ordinary Sunday peeling potatoes. He was known worldwide so maybe this is a good time for all of us to read and enjoy some of his poems.
