Thar Sáile
This is the traditional time for perusing holiday brochures and making plans. Do keep in mind your very own Federation travel group. Like all successful ventures
this idea started small over ten years ago and over the years has grown. Under the baton of that inveterate traveller Pauline Power of Feenagh during her term as International Officer a small group visited Vienna. In addition to visits to Stephansdom (the old town) with so many wonderful sites, a meeting with the Austrian Women’s organisation in conjunction with their annual conference was also arranged. The visit to Wien, a city that hosted the Hafburg Court for many centuries, was the forerunner of what is now an annual trip abroad.
Other memorable trips followed including visits to Iceland,. Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Italy organised by subsequent International Officers May Galvin (Kildimo), Mary Raleigh (Knockarron/Knocklong) and current International Officer Ann McLoughlin (Limerick City). Plans are currently being finalised regarding a cruise and up to date information is available from Ann McLoughlin (061) 345041.

Nearer to home many of our members have been spotted celebrating Nollag na mBan in various places including Adare and Ballingarry areas. While climbing Knockfierna might not go amiss after all the fine wining and dining I understand that venture is for another day.
Craft Officer Patricia Cronin wishes to remind membere of a Decoupage Course which is being hosted by Ballingarry ICA commencing on Monday next January 19th in Ballingarry Hall from 7 to 9pm. Bookings and further information available from Craft Officer Patricia (063) 85116
Cappamore Guild celebrates their guild’s 35th Birthday this year. Starting off witha celebratory lunch in their local restaurant Guild President Lucy Walsh will unveil their programme of 35 special activities for the year ahead.
Christmas Customs
Contributions from Broadford and Cappamore members regarding old customs associated with Christmas’s past were very much appreciated .No doubt many more members will also have their own special thoughts on times past and are eagerly awaited.
‘Go and open the Door’
This is the theme for Bealtaine Festival 2009, which will be its 14th year celebrating creativity in older age. From the poem ‘The Door’ by
Miroslav Holub this is an invitation to try something new, to explore something creative this Bealtaine in recognition of our capacity for creativity at all stages of our lives. Further information and application forms available from Age and Opportunity, the coordinators of this festival.

‘The Door’
Go and open the door
Maybe outside there’s
a tree, or a wood,
a garden,
or a magic city.
Go and open the door,
Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
Maybe you’ll see a face,
or an eye,
or a picture
of a picture.
Go and open the door,
If there’s a fog
It will clear.
