Fed Notes W/E March 26 2011

New Beginnings
The accolade for the first new guild of the second ICA century in Limerick Federation goes to Newcastle West. Following a request from a number of interested ladies in the locality the inaugural meeting was held on Thursday March 10 where a group of approx twenty ladies assembled to get details of joining ICA. Much to the delight of Federation President and Hon Sec Anne Gabbett and Joan Hayes volunteers willingly came forward to fill the officer positions in the new guild. The next meeting will take place on Thursday April 7 in Courtney Lodge Hotel, Newcastle West, commencing at 8pm.There is a warm welcome assured to all ladies wishing to join what promises to be another vibrant  guild in West Limerick where members in Ardagh, Broadford, Castlemahon, Feenagh, Kilmeedy and Mainistir na Féile are more than willing ‘to extend the hand of friendship’ Ní neart go cur le céile.
 
Cookery Events
Irish Country Women's Association's chief home economist Marie McGuirk will, once again, be making an appearance on ‘Four Live’ RTE1 this time on Friday April 6 demonstrating her cookery skills.

Do also watch out for her articles in ‘Womans Way’ magazine every two weeks from early April.

Daffodil Day


It’s that time of the year again and  this  Friday March 25 is the designated day when the Irish Cancer Society’s most important funding drive turns the country yellow. In this, the Year of the Volunteer, why not get involved and help  raise funds to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. …. Volunteer to become a street collector or organise your own event with family, friends or colleagues.

ART Competition


An art competition being arranged by Arts Officer Mary Moloney will be judged at the Federation AGM in Adare on Tuesday April 26 2011.
’A Spring Scene’, using any of the following: Acryllic, Oil, Pastel,Watercolour,.
Mazimum Size 12’’ x 18’’. Entries, either framed or unframed, to be handed in by 7.30pm in on the night of the AGM.
In order to facilitate this event please send entry fee of €5 per entry with your details to Mary (083 )3544625 by Tuesday April 19 2011.
ACWW Conference 
The European Conference of ACWW is being held in Dublin this year from April 4 to 8. and at the close of the conference it is intended to make a presentation of a cheque of Coins for Friendship . All guilds have an opportunity to contribute, on an annual basis, towards this worthwhile cause in aid of improving facilities for women in third world countries. Guild who may not have already done are requested to forward outstanding contributions to Federation Hon Treasurer Mary Blackwell as soon as possible who will be submitting same to Central Office for inclusion in this presentation.

News from the Guilds

Ballingarry members will be holding a coffee morning on this Friday March 25 from 10am to 1pm in the Hall in aid of Irish Cancer Society and your support for this worthy cause would be much appreciated. Their next guild meeting takes on Wed April 6, commencing at 8pm.

Ballyhahill/Loughill guild’s AGM took place recently with all positions filled. Their Grianán Teachta Peggy Kelly is busy organising some members for Limerick week and Daisy Kearney, who was the unanimous choice for PRO, will have lots of scope to utilize her storytelling skills.

Mainistir na Féile members are presently preparing for their AGM on Tuesday April 5  in the Vocational School, having had lots of practice since the guilds formation in 1969.Their honorary member,nonagenarian May O’Connor of Islandboy also played an active part in the earlier guild formed in 1947 until it closed in 1965. Her friends and colleagues wish May and her husband Paddy ‘fad saol ’ and look forward to exchanging lots of lore with her at many more ICA meetings.
