Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending Dec. 17th

National ICA President Anne Maria Dennison,Mainistir na Féile with group of ICA presidents at An  Grianan recently.Limerick was represented by Vice President Phyllis O'Halloran.


COUNTY QUIZ WINNERS:
Oola were the winners of Limerick Federation ICA Quiz and the team members were Nora Stapleton ,Mary O Byrne, Teresa Bowles and Marie English. In second place were  Cappamore members ,Breege Mc Namara, Anne Flynn, Nancy Ryan and Phyllis Ryan. Marie Hayes, competition secretary was pleased with the good attendance on the night and all will earn valuable points for the guild of the year competition.
AN GRIANÁN:
The Ladies who travelled to An Grianán had a very productive two days. Some did Christmas wreathes and decorated logs while others did cooking with fruit cakes, soups ,stuffed turkey breasts and seasonal mince pies all on the menu. The final group avoided all thechores and opted for aromatherapy which was just what the doctor ordered.
They also tried out the new beauty saloon and gave a very positive report. So now if you are looking for a special Christmas gift why not get a few vouchers for An Grianán ? As well as that 2012 is The Year Of An Grianán so lots of members will be going there and non members are also welcome.
COMHBHRÓN:
It was with sadness that we heard of the death of Mary Ellen Lyons RIP, a long time member of Clarina guild.
LACEMAKERS:
On November 30th the lacemakers of Limerick Federation finished a ten week course on Limerick lace given by Marian O Callaghan. This was a follow up to the course held in the summer and even though the work is very detailed and slow everyone completed a piece which thy will proudly display in their homes. The next lace course will be held in An Grianán during Limerick Week in July 2012. Marian will also teach some other crafts at the craft day on March 12th. So if you are interested give your names to Carol O Keeffe, Craft Officer.
AROUND THE GUILDS:
Mainistir Na Féile
The members of Mainistir Na Féile guild are having a well deserved night out with Christmas Dinner in Leens Hotel on Dec13.The had a  busy autumn programme with eight weeks of cookery with Karen O Shaughnessey and a Dance and Exercise class with Lisa Cahill. Both of these courses were   supported by Limerick VEC and they plan to run A Go For Life exercise class in the new year so if you live in Abbeyfealed go along and join them.
Caisleán Nua
This is a newly formed guild and they are working on the principle of “tosach maith leath na h-oibre”.In November their guest was a Polish girl living in Newcastlewest and she gave a class in ribbon work.At the December meeting one  of their own members gave a demonstration on Flower arranging. In the New year they plan to finish a class in contemporary embroidery  and in February their guest will be a beautician.This will be an open meeting so if you are interested in joining them contact 087 649511. Their Secretary Rose Mc Carthy also tells me that they are having their Christmas night out in The Market Brasserie so well done to all.
Morroe/Boher
The members of Murroe/Boher guild had their Christmas night out in Crokers on Dec. 6 and they were privileged to have Federation President Ann Gabbett as their guest on this occasion.  A great crowd attended and The Craft Group put on a lovely display of their work on the night. A table quiz was organised by Ann Quinlivan and K Wilizus. Ann Gabbett presented Breda Fitzpatrick with a beautiful Colm De Ris bowl which she won in the National Volunteering Competition. Ann Gabbett also tells us that Noreen Lorigan of Morroe was a former Federation President and she later went on to become Matron of The Horticultural College at An Grianán. The night ended with finger food Christmas treats and drinks.
