Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending May18th

Cappamore ICA Ladies on the steps of The Irish Pontifical College in Rome where they were given a most interesting guided tour by Fr. Hugh Clifford Galway

Roamin’ in Rome.

In the wee small hours of Friday, 26th April, 2013 fourteen of the ladies of Cappamore I.C.A. set off to sample “La Dolce Vita” in the Eternal City.
After a stress-free Aer Lingus flight we settled into the luxurious Savoy Hotel. A leisurely lunch taken “al fresco” was followed by a tour of the city on the Hop on, hop off bus. This ensured that we found our bearings and saw all the major sights of this beautiful city.
On Saturday morning we made our way to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s. Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling and Pieta were all we expected and more. That afternoon we climbed the Spanish Steps and threw a coin or two in the Trevi Fountain.
Sunday Mass in the Augustinian Church of St. Patricks was a very special occasion as one of our companions had been married there thirty five years previously. Then we set off for St. Peter’s for the Sunday morning blessing of His Holiness Pope Francis. We had to share St. Peter’s Square with one hundred thousand other pilgrims but we were happy to be in such a special place.
The Colosseum, the Irish College, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona  finished our Roman itinerary perfectly.
Monday 29th April saw us back in “the ould sod” happy, relaxed and basking in wonderful memories of a wonderful weekend.
Arrivederci Roma!
