CÚRSAÍ SLÁINTE

Breast Check Screening Promotion Officer Fíona Treacy gave a very interesting presentation to Limerick Federation members in Woodlands Hotel, Adare recently. Free breast screening service is available, every two years, for women aged 50 to 64 years. A Breast Check mobile unit, based at Croom Hospital, is screening in Limerick over the coming months and will initially cater for those eligible in areas from Ballylanders to Adare and places in between.
To check that you’re are on the register or to register contact Breast Check on Free phone 1800 454545 or check online at www.breastcheck.ie
It is intended that the entire county will be covered as part of the National Cancer Screening Service, commencing with the above areas.
The proceeds of this years sponsored mini marathon, organised by Federation Sports Officer Mary Blackwell, realized a sum of in excess of €4,000 which has been donated to Breast Cancer Research. All participants and supporters are to be commended for their generosity.

ICA CONSTITUTION

Proposed amendments to the constitution are now with all guilds. Members are earnestly requested to discuss and consider these and return their guild’s postal vote to Central Office not later than Friday 30 Jan 09. Perhaps it may even be possible to deal with this issue before the end of this year.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION FUNDING

Application forms now available for Community Funding 2009 and should be returned to County Limerick VEC on or before Friday Dec 19 th 2008.Further details available from (061) 442100 or email admin@limerickvec.ie
With such a variety of courses on offer there should be something for all.

FUNDRAISING

Many guilds are presently holding fundraising activities in aid of ICA national funds and these activities are to be commended. Castlemahon’s recent Bring and Buy Sale was very successful. A Jewellery Nights in Kildimo was most enjoyable and their next Open Night will be on Card Making with recycled materials. Bearing in mind the volume of cards coming through the letter boxes in the next few weeks there should be no shortage of suitable materials for this venture, which will be an Open Night in early February 09.

FORTHCOMING COMPETITION

An opportunity exists for those interested in Knitting (and Nattering) to produce a hand knitted toy Max height 13”, Min height 10” for National competition, closing date Fri Feb 20th next.
Likewise calling all artistic members to produce a 3D Decoupage Max 5” x 8”, Min 4” x 6”, unframed and submit by Fri March 20th.
All entries, together with €5 per entry, to National Contest Sec Hilda Roche.
