Notes W/E Feb 7th 2009

An raibh tú ag an gCarraig nó an bhfaca tu féin mo ghrá?

This could well be the mantra of the ICA widowers of Ireland as their dear ones
depart next weekend for Co Louth leaving them all alone on St Valentine’s Day!
From every county in Ireland ICA ladies will make their way to An Grianán aspiring to national awards in various skills. Representing Limerick Federation are question time gurus Mary O’Rourke, Kildimo, Peggy O’Sullivan, Limerick City and Ailish Willis, also from Limerick City Guild, famous for her recipes will be Agnes Collins, Castleconnell and for style and colour who better than Imelda O’Grady, Caherdavin. All good wishes go with them, as will Federation Contest Secretary Annette Long, keeping a friendly eye on proceedings and ensuring that the Shannonside group are well catered for.


Presidential Race

The race is on, candidates have been nominated, and the Presidency of the Irish Countrywomen’s Association will be bestowed on the successful lady in Kilkenny on May 27 next. Our Federation is fielding a very strong candidate in the person of Anne Maria Dennison from Mainistir Na Féile. Anna Marie has a very impressive ‘Countrywomen’s’ C.V., having held a variety of positions with distinction at Federation and National levels. She currently holds the portfolio of ‘National Hon. Secretary’, and she is widely acknowledged as a person with ability and drive.
Members are invited to a Presidential Campaign Meting in the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow on Thursday February 26th, commencing at 7.30pm.Please lend your support to Anne Maria by coming along to this meeting where the strategy for the leadership of ICA will be outlined.


Ms Anne Maria Dennison, Mainistir na Féile, Contae Luimnigh who is a candidate in the forthcoming ICA Presidential Election.


Constitutional Amendments

A reminder to guilds that the date for submitting amendments to the proposed constitution is drawing to a close.. This Friday February 6th is the final date for receiving your decisions in Central Office.


Creative Writing Series


A) Limerick County Council Arts Office, under the auspices of the county’s poet in residence Eileen Sheehan, is offering a series of creative writing evenings commencing on Thursday February 12th. The series of 4 workshops will cover all aspects of creative writing including the novel, short story and poetry. The dates of the evening series, which will be held on a fortnightly basis in Newcastle West Library, are Thursday February 12th, Thursday February 26th, and Thursday March 12th, with the final workshop on Thursday March 26th. Each workshop will run from 7.30 to 9.00pm.

B) Another venue, should your preference be in the afternoon, is Adare Heritage Centre.
Manager Maeve Kelly in conjunction with County Arts Officer is considering a series of creative writing sessions, also with facilitator Eileen Sheehan, commencing shortly.

Bantracht Na Tuaithe Cill Díoma

The Kildimo ICA Art Group’ The Killulta Painters’ will resume activities on Tuesday next February 10th in Seven Sisters Pub, Old Kildimo. Commencing at 7.30pm, this course, under the guidance of Theresa Hegarty, will continue for a period of ten weeks. All guild members are invited to attend.
