Notes W/E March 7th 2009


Rita Horgan,of Mainistir na Féile ICA was among the large gathering from Abbeyfeale supporting their colleague Ann Maria Dennison at the recent Presidential Campaign Meeting in Mallow.

COMHBHRÓN

It was with sadness that the members of Oola ICA heard of the death of their former colleague and dear friend Mrs Eileen Holmes (nee O’Donovan) of Main Street Oola last week. Eileen was a founder member and former president of the local ICA, and was well known in her capacity as Federation VCO when, over the years, she visited many guilds throughout the county.
Pre deceased by her husband Denis, she is deeply mourned by her sons, daughters, their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, friends and neighbours.RIP.Her funeral took place on Sunday last March 1st 2009,following Requiem Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart,Oola, to the family burial place in nearby Cullen.
Condolences are extended to her family, friends and all who knew her including her many ICA friends who attended her removal and burial.

Candidate in the forthcoming ICA election for National President, Anne Maria Dennison of Mainistir Na Féile, in a stirring address at the ICA Presidential campaign in Mallow recently, reiterated her commitment to the reinvention of the organisation and its implementation. She confirmed her intention to proceed, in conjunction with the new Development Unit, with a major recruitment drive and to initiate the development of new guilds throughout the country. Her supporters were there in large numbers including buses from West Limerick and her native Mainistir Na Féile.
Your vote could be the deciding factor in making history by electing the first National ICA President from Limerick.
Voting papers are now with all guilds and you are encouraged to complete same and return to Central Office, in the enevelope provided, as soon as possible.

ART MATTERS

Federation Arts Officer Breege Murray of Adare would like to reming members to put thr finishing touches to their Easter Cards, which should be handed in at the next Federation Meeting on Wed March 18th in Woodlands Hotel, Adare.Judging will take place on the night and the results of the writing competition ‘My Own Story’ will also be announced. At this meeting.
You still have an opportunity to submit your entry for this competition as the deadline has been deferred to Tuesday March 10th

ACTIVITY DAYS

There was a full compliment at the recent Activity Day held in Cappamore
with many on the waiting list for the next one there. Sports Officer Mary Blackwell is now finalising arrangements for the forthcoming one being hosted by Castleconnell guild in Lisnagry NS on Saturday March 21st and judging by the interest expressed there will not be many if any vacant places.

An afternoon of poetry, song, and story will be held in Desmond Complex, Newcastle West on Sunday next March 8th in celebration of International Women’s Day. Participating artists include Nóirín Ni Riain, Eileen Sheehan and Cora Fenton.Commencing at 3pm, this event will be a wonderful celebration agus beidh fáilte roimh gach einne ann, idir fir agus mná.
