BONNETS

Women from Ireland who were sent to Australia and Van Dieman’s Land in the early 19th century for petty crimes are now being honoured two centuries later. ‘Roses from the Heart Bonnets’ is an unusual project, which has been undertaken by ICA members in Mayo. The bonnets design is based on a colonial women’s servants bonnet, made of calico, embroidered with roses and names from the original list of convicts. Other areas are now following suit and when completed the bonnets will be sent to Australia for a blessing ceremony and touring exhibition.
Further information will be made available at the Spring Federation Meeting in Adare on Wed March 18th and also on www.femalefactory.com.au

NATIONAL RESCUE FUND

Federation Treasurer Ann Gabbett would like to express her thanks to all
Guilds for their contributions towards the National ICA Rescue Fund.
Limerick Federation members have not been found wanting and through various fundraising activities and /or from guild resources have been very generous. Contributions from most guilds have now been received
and it is hoped that all other monies pledged will be submitted shortly.
