Centenary Celebrations
Conditions in rural Ireland and the lifestyle of women in particular at the beginning of the 20th century would not be recognisable by the present standards. The Irish Countrywomen’s Association, set up in 1910, played no small part in improving the standard of life in rural Ireland through education and co-operative effort.
Next year, being the centenary year will see celebrations in every corner of the land where ICA flourishes.

Celebrations at National level, co-ordinated by Anne Maria Dennison of Mainistir na Féile Guild in her capacity as National President will include a Ecumenical Service in Bree, Co Wexford, the founding location, followed by a Gala Dinner in a local Hotel. All this takes on Friday May 7th 2010.

Plans are well advanced by Limerick Federation’s centenary committee and will be launched on January 6th Nollag Na mBan at a celebratory lunch. This will take place at the Woodlands Hotel, Adare, a venue long associated with ICA activities in the county. It is anticipated that all guilds will be represented on this occasion and an invitation is also extended to former guilds to join in the celebrations .A reunion of past and present ICA members would be a very fitting way of starting the year. Further details including ticket arrangements available fro PRO Phyllis (087) 2452336.

Exhibition of Photographs

In conjunction with centenary events members are invited to put together a collection of their guild’s photographs for display. This exhibition will take place in conjunction with the Nollag na mBan lunch on January 6th which allows some time to collect and arrange same. Start searching those boxes and old albums now.

Comings and Goings

Almost fifty members of Limerick Federation are travelling to Yorkshire this week-end on a short autumn break and promise to wave to all at home from ‘The Woolpack’ when they call to sample Marlon’s cuisine.

In the meantime those who travelled on the Baltic cruise recently included members from Cappagh, Caherdavin, Crecora, Kildimo and Oola

The next outing will be to the Autumn Federation meeting on Wednesday next September 23rd. All roads lead to Adare on the night.
