Centenary Celebrations
As the year progresses so do the ICA celebrations. Next weekend its Wexford turn where many members will converge. The day commences with an ecumenical service in Bree where the organisation was founded in 1910. The unveiling of a plaque and the planting of a tree on the site of St Aidans Hall where the first ICA meeting took place will follow.
The National Library., Kildare Street, Dublin will host two events to mark the centenary of the ICA within the Bealtaine Festival.
There will be an open ICA Panel Discussion around the ICA, at the library, on Friday May 21 between 1pm and 2pm with time for audience participation. Included in this panel, chaired by an outside facilitator, will be National President Anne Maria Dennison and other experienced ICA members .Do try and go along there. Easy access as a bus from Heuston Station stops  outside the door
There will  also be a display of archival material relating to the ICA from the National Library and this exhibition will remain in place for the summer months.
All federations will be represented at Aras an Uachtaráin on Tuesday July 6 when President Mary McAleese hosts a garden party in honour of the ICA centenary year.   

Annual General Meeting

 
Many tributes were paid to those leaving the officer team at last week’s Federation AGM having served in office for the recognised three-year period. President Marie Hayes of Cappamore handed over the chain of office to incoming Federation President Anne Gabbott of Mungret.Also departing the team were Craft Officer Ann Baggott, Ballingarry, Contest Secretary Annette Long, Limerick City, Timire Rita Horgan, Mainistir na Féile and International Officer Anne Mc Loughlin, Limerick City. Go raibh mile maith agaibh uilig.

Long Service Awards

Members with either 30,35,or 40 years membership will be presented with

their long service certificates at the next federation meeting on Wednesday June 18 in Woodlands Hotel,Adare.

News from the Guilds
Kilbehenny I.C.A. hosted an Information Evening on Women's Health in their Community Hall where a local GP and a diabetic nurse gave a presentation They also had some workshops including footcare, beauty, and one conducted by a representative a local gym. They are now fighting fit and ready for their planned holiday to Donegal in June which  is booked out with some on a waiting list.
Castletroy ICA has recently been formed and their first officers elected are President Maureen Sheehan, Hon Sec Meira Nash and Hon Treas Nora Howard.
This newly formed guild hold their meetings in The Kilmurry Lodge Hotel, Castletroy on the third Tuesday of the month and extend a warm welcome to any ladies wishing to join them.
Ballingarry ICA with a long tradition in crafts had the winning entry in the centenary scarf competition. Congratulations to Theresa Storey for her wonderful crochet piece.  Best wishes also to Theresa for her  ‘Green Apron’ produce. This enterprising lady’s preserves can be found at her stall on Saturdays Milk Market, also in some of the local shops.
