Honour bestowed on Association and its President


At a ceremony in Ollscoil Náisiúnta na Gaillimhe last week our Association,

which celebrates its centenary this year, was honoured with a special

commendation.

In recognition of the work carried out by the ICA over the past one hundred

years an honorary doctorate in the arts was conferred on its National President

Anne Maria Dennison by Dr John Browne, president of NUI Galway. Anne

Maria has participated at every level of the organisation, is also a member of

the Teagasc Education and Training Forum and has served on the National

Economic Social Forum.

It was with sadness that her former ICA colleagues heard of the death of Mary

Herlihy (nee Joyce),

Tankardstown, Kilmallock last week. A founder member and former president

of Rockhill/Bruree ICA

Mary, who was predeceased by her husband Mikie, sister Nellie Buckley,

Coolea, and brother Dr Maincín Seoighe, Tankardstown is deeply

mourned by her brothers in law, cousins, relatives, friends, and neighbours

and her many ICA friends throughout the county RIP.Her funeral took place

on Sunday June 27,following Requiem Mass in Ss Peter and Paul's Church,

Kilmallock to the Old Cemetery, Bruree..

News from the Guilds

Kilbehenny members and friends are presently on a tour in Donegal and

Kildimo are still celebrating their

Guild of the year success. Cappamore members are currently involved in the

organising of their annual Show which this year takes place on Wednesday

August 18. On the show day there will be secret judges keeping an eye on the

ladies as a special prize for the best dressed ICA lady will be presented .This

is a new addition to the many other events and attractions at this popular East

Limerick Show and members from far and near are expected to participate,

subject of course to showing evidence of membership.

Fifteen guilds will be represented at Áras an Uachtaráin on Tuesday next July

6 where they will join their colleagues from all other federations around the

country at a garden party hosted by Uachtaráin na hEireann.

On the previous day a group of thirty members from various parts of Limerick

City and County will travel to An Grianán in County Louth with their organiser

Helen Lane from Murroe.The annual Limerick Week will have various courses

available including the arts, crafts, and cookery and has been booked out for

some time.

Where are all the others?

One hundred paintings are awaited and replies from the silent guilds also

waited !

Already a considerable number of members have indicated their intention to

participate and a reminder

to those who still haven’t forwarded their expression of interest to do so as soon

as possible.

As part of the Limerick Federation’s centenary celebrations an exhibition of

members artwork will take place in Limerick County Library, Dooradoyle

during the month of August.

Open to all guild members, handing in day is Tuesday August 3 between 11am

and 1pm at the library. All paintings to be mounted, framed, and ready for

hanging, with title, medium, artists name and guild on back. One painting per
