Comhbhrón

The passing of Brídin Twist of Clare last week was a cause of sadness to many including members of various organisations throughout the country with which she was associated.

Bridín held various roles in the ICA including that of National ICA President from 1994 to 1997.
Among her many achievements was the very successful ‘National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign’, which resulted in a commitment to a national breast cancer screening programme.

Brídín was also the first female member of the Irish Economic and Social Committee to the European Union, which allowed her to produce equality documents, which were later, voted into law.

Meeting the members countrywide is what gave Brídín most satisfaction and it was her warmth and energy that many members in this federation will remember her by, particularly on her first visit to the Greenhills Hotel in Limerick after her election as National President in 1994.

Brídin was a highly regarded evening and bridal wear designer and founder of the Burren Holistic Centre at Rockforest, Tubber where she spent many happy and fulfilled years until her death last week. Following Requiem Mass in Barefield Church, Ennis on Sunday last August 14 her remains were interred in Kilkeady Cemetery, Tubber in The Burren.

She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched, but most of all by her beloved husband Bob, daughters Sheena and Siobhán, son in law, grandchildren,  siblings, aunt Sr Dominic and extended family.RIP

Archives

I am putting a call out to ICA members OR families of members for old photos of ICA members and events, the earlier the better (black and white),colour, Photos of action, involvement of women doing things, attending rallies or demonstrations. Perhaps there might be some old film of an ICA event gathering dust on a shelf?  Id love to hear from anyone who has anything like this.
