Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending Jan28th


“Anois teacht an earraigh
Beidh an lá ag dul chun síneadh

These lines written by the blind poet Raifteirí welcome the coming of Spring when nature and the countryside come back to life.
ICA groups around the county are back in action and February is a month packed full with activities.


GOOD NEWS:-
Many guilds got new members this year and this is good news for the guilds and the organisation. If you have an increase in the numbers in your guild you should write to head office at 58 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and you will get vouchers for attending An Grianán.


INVITATION:-
Limerick Federation ICA is invited to visit The European Parliament Offices in Dublin on Thursday Feb.23
A bus will leave the Crescent Shopping Centre at 7.30am to take members to Dublin.You will visit the European Parliament Offices and there will be a talk on current Irish/European affairs from 11.30 to 12.30 . This will be followed by lunch and then members are free to go shopping or sightseeing.The bus returns to Limerick later that evening. Once again the good news is –the trip is free compliments of the EU Offices.If you are interested ring or text Joan Hayes, Federation Secretary before Feb 17th.


RANKS BAKING MEMORIES:-
Members are having lots of fun recalling their baking memories so now it is time to write them down and you can bring them along with any baking utensils you have collected to the Federation meeting on Feb21st.These items will be displayed  in the Hunt Museum  in March.


AN GRIANÁN:-
Limerick Week at An Grianán is booked for July 16 to 20th and the following classes are available.
Watercolours ,Digital Photography, Hairpin Crochet, Fitness and Leisure, Pamper Me, Time for Yourself and Limerick Lace.
If you are interested in going please give your name to Helen Lane and Helen will collect €100 deposit at Federation Meeting .
This year a special bus will travel from Limerick to An Grianán and the cost is €30.


COMPETITIONS:-
Mary Moloney, Arts Officer is holding a painting competition at Federation Meeting on Feb21st
A Winter Garden Scene in acrylic-unmounted and not framed. Entries by Feb16th and you can bring painting along to meeting with €3 entry fee.
Gempack Recipe Competition
Dinner for a family of four to include a starter, main course and desert using as many Gem Pack products as possible. Send the recipes to Marie Hayes before Feb17th
The cakes will be judged at Federation Meeting.
Tivoli Make and Model Competition
All members entering this competition are asked to send their names to Marie Hayes before Feb17th.


COOKING WITH EDWARD HEYDEN:-
Limerick Federation are delighted to announce that Edward Heyden will be back again in the Woodlands with all new menues. The last demonstration was very successful  so don’t miss out this very special night on Tuesday February 28th Tickets are available from guild secretaries.


COMHBHRÓN:-
Condolences to Mary Sheehan and Nellie Cosgrove of Clarina guild on the death of their brother Tom Costello,also to the family of Nuala Hannon a member of Fedamore Guild who passed away recently. Sympathy is also extended to Stasia Walsh of Oola Guild on the death of her husband Martin. It was also with sadness that we heard of the deaths of Breda Fitzgerald ,a former member of Drombanna Guild  and her husband RIP.


ACTIVITY DAYS:-
Kathleen Griffin, sports officer has two activity dayes planned for March. The first will be in Kilcornan on March 3rd and the second will be in Doon on March 31st.
