Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending May 19th

ART AND CRAFTS EXHIBITION:-
Limerick ICA Ladies assembled in the Historic Town of Kilmallock on Thursday May 10th for the opening of Le Chéile 2 .The beautiful new Library in Kilmallock was the ideal setting for a display of art and craft work produced by members of various ICA guilds in Co Limerick. Phyllis O Halloran , Federation President  welcomed Anne Maria Dennison who is just completing her term of office as National President and said it was a great privilege to have her back in Limerick. Anne Maria said ICA was committed to supporting and encouraging creativity in Arts and Crafts and all members are introduced to new skills at guild and Federation level. Many then go on to The College in An Grianán to improve and perfect these skills. She also said that she was delighted with the revival of classes in Limerick Lace and this year there will be a special class available during Limerick Week at An Grianán
The Exhibition in Kilmallock continues until the end of May so do make the effort to go along and see the interesting items on display. You will also enjoy a visit to The Library which was opened in Nov2009. It won an award for design as The Best public Building of the year 2010. The Librarian Noreen O Neill and staff Carmel Cleary, Niamh Hayes and Noreen Sheehan will be delighted to show you around. They tell me they have about 4000 readers and it is used a lot by the schools in the area.  I noticed an interesting collection of up to date art and craft books and the Library has an excellent music and film collection. It is one of the good news stories of our time.
Finally a special word of thanks goes to Kilmallock ICA who provided the lovely “eats and treats “ on the day.
SUPPORTING RESEARCH:-
On Sunday May 13th ICA ladies and their families all over Ireland were out collecting funds for Breast Cancer Research at the University College Hospital Galway. Limerick Ladies met at The Heritage Centre Adare and had a walk in beautiful sunshine along the tourist route and turning to the left at The Protestant Church on to the riverbank walk. Then back out on to the road near the old railway station and returned to the Heritage Centre for refreshments and a chat. Many ICA ladies themselves are cancer survivors so we ask you to support this worthy cause by giving a donation to any ICA guild before June 30th.
