THE DALES AND LAKE DISTRICT:-
“Though changed, no doubt, from what I was when first
I came among these hills; when like a roe
I bounded o’er the mountains, by the sides
Of the deep rivers, and the lonely streams,
Wherever nature led me “
The beauties of the Lake District made famous by Wordsworth are only a short trip away.
On Monday Sept 10th Limerick ICA ladies will travel by coach to The Dales and Lake District and return again on Friday Sept14th. If you are interested in joining the group please give your names to Kathleen Griffin 061- 394241/0872172225 The cost of the trip is €439 which is very good value for the complete package.
LIMERICK LACE:-
Limerick Federation was delighted to continue the revival of the craft of Limerick Lace at Limerick Week in An Grianán. Having organised some very successful Classes in 2011, the Federation Officers decided to continue the good work. Limerick Lace teacher, Marian O Callaghan travelled from Ballyhea Co Cork to take the class. Seven ladies from Limerick and one from Clare took part. It was hard work but well worthwhile. They also took the opportunity to visit the museum at the entrance to the college where they viewed the magnificent collection of lace, crochet, Mountmellick work etc.that is preserved there. The museum has some very fine examples of limerick lace so it was nice to experience this link with the craftworkers of the past. The group enjoyed the class and are very privileged to have such a dedicated teacher in Marian O Callaghan. It is hoped to continue with the classes in the Autumn and if anyone would like to learn the craft please contact Annette Long , Craft Officer with Limerick Federation at 061 343314
