CREATIVE WRITING:-
If you can get your hands on the booklet which contains all the wonderful stories entered for the ICA Short Story Competition 2012 it is a very good read. As a sample of the talent I have chosen this paragraph for a story by Kathleen Leahy, Mainistir Na Féile Guild Co Limerick.
“My father fostered my interest in birds. He was from a rural background but lived in a local town for his entire life. He spent his working week managing a business in the town but every weekend he escaped to the countryside. From an early age, I accompanied him on many of these sojourns. My father advised me on how to correctly identify a bird. He taught me that detailed information is required for accurate identification of a bird. I needed to assess how big it was, I should describe its beak, legs, wings and tail. I should note any special any special colours or behaviour, whether it perched in a tree, hopped, walked, waded or swam. Did it fly in a straight line or a looping line; did it soar, glide or hover? Did it have a special kind of nest or a distinctive song or call?” This story had a very unusual twist at the end and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
CRAFT DISPLAY:
It is hoped to put all the craft pieces from Limerick Week on display at Sept Federation Meeting . Paintings, Photographs, Limerick Lace, Hairpin crochet and Smocking will go on display. The members who have these pieces are asked to bring them along on the night and Annett Long and Rita Horgan will be looking after the display.
