A FIRST FOR ABBEYFEALE:-
Mainistir Na Féile ICA Guild hosted the first ever Poetry Workshop run by Limerick Federation ICA and it was a most enjoyable and creative event. The workshop was organised by Rita Horgan , Arts Officer and the facilitator on the day was Mary Shanahan .We talked about the rich creative tradition of West Limerick and North Kerry with poets such as Michael Hartnett, Brendan Kennelly , Eileen Sheehan, Peg Prendeville and a whole host of others. We read and listened to poetry and we experimented with writing our own poetry. Great personal stories emerged full of humour, love and sadness and this is the essence of poetry. This short poem by Pat Boran was a favourite on the day

Still smelling of oranges
After years in this drawer
Among buttons, paper clips,
Envelopes, old specs…
