The Battle of Clontarf

On the site of the earlier Battle of Clontarf there will take place a 21st Century ‘re-enactment’, when the finalists in the ICA Eleanora Gibbon competition will compete in the less bloody entertainment field on Saturday, June 13, 2009. Amongst the participants from all over the country will feature the Cappamore team members who won the Munster battle with their mimic of a TV Show in the ‘All Ireland Southern Region Talent Competition Final. The Limerick Federation can anticipate a proud performance from the Cappamore ladies supported by their own and our own President.

FEDERATION AGM


Last Monday May 18th the Federation Annual General Meeting, took place in Woodlands Hotel, Adare.

Among those outgoing officers and committee to whom tributes were extended for their services over the past number of years were Vice President Carol O’Keeffe, Ballysteen, Hon Treasurer Ann Gabbett, Mungret, Arts Officer Breege Murray, Adare, Craft Officer Patricia Cronin, Feenagh, An Grianán Teachta Pauline Power, Feenagh and Mary Blackwell, Sports Officer, Cappamore.

The officers and committee confirmed in office for the coming year are the following:

President Marie Hayes, Cappamore, Vice Presidents Ann Gabbett, Mungret and Nora Stapleton, Oola, Hon Treasurer Mary Blackwell, Cappamore, Hon Sec Joan Hayes, Crecora, PRO Phyllis O’Halloran, Kildimo, Contest Sec Annette Long, Limerick City, Timire Rita Horgan, Mainistir na Féile, International Officer Ann McLoughlin, Limerick City, Craft Officer Ann Baggott, Ballingarry, Sports Officer Kathleen Griffin, Kildimo, and Grianán Teachta Helen Lane, Murroe.Best of luck to all in their endeavours.

There is still a vacancy for the position of Federation Arts Officer and any interested members should contact Hon Sec Joan Hayes ASAP.

KILKENNY TRAVEL

In order to facilitate those wishing to travel to National AGM in Kilkenny on Wednesday May 27 a coach will depart Mainistir na Féile early (6am approx) collecting passengers in Newcastle West, Southcourt Hotel, Dromkeen, Tipperary Town and other places en route as required.

Should you wish to join this group please contact Rita Horgan, Mainistir na Féile (068) 31405/(086) 3738626 as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to accommodate those wishing to travel to what will be a momentous historical occasion for Limerick Federation.

GUILD AGM’s

As is customary membership fees are collected at the guild’s annual general meeting and it is suggested that an amount similar to the current fee (€26) be collected now. Any revision of fees can be dealt with at a subsequent meeting when such details are announced.



ICA CRUISE


Just back from foreign parts International Officer Ann McLoughlin is now putting the final touches to the forthcoming ICA Baltic cruise. Those interested in travelling should take note of the departure sailing date from Harwich, which is Friday August 21. With opportunities to visit at least six Baltic countries in addition to the other delights of a cruising holiday it might be advisable to book your personal trainer now agus ‘Bí ullamh’!
