AN GRIANÁN
As Helen Lane of Murroe makes her maiden voyage as Federation Teachta to An Grianán next week she need have no worries. The doyenne of Limerick Week Pauline Power will be there to hold her hand and ensure that all goes according to plan, a tried and tested plan that her predecessor has worked out over the past three years. All good wishes to those travelling on the Helen/Pauline tour, which will be reported on in due course.
ICA
by
Maeve Bradley, Kildimo ICA
When our country was young
An organisation
Improved the lot of women
-and our nation
They bicycled and walked
To hear experts who talked,
They valued, and espoused,
Education.
ICA-Branches, An Grianán,
Federation-became their
Institute of Practical Education
They mastered a myriad of crafts,
Had a million and one laughs
While learning, singing, calf rearing
Drama, set dancing, weaving
In branches far and wide
ICA changed life for the better
In our Irish countryside

REPORTING SKILLS
Hindsight is wonderful! How many times did we wish, on looking through old photographs and trying to recall dates or even the year taken, that somebody had written some details on the back. What about updating your skills?
Perhaps an entry for the National ICA Trophy for Reporting 2009 might get you started. Write an article of approx 500 words on Promoting ICA in a local newspaper or in a women’s group. All entries to be typed on one side of paper only, double spacing and wide margins.
Forward it, together with en entry fee of €5, to National Contest Secretary Hilda Roche by Friday September 25th 2009
