Béal an Átha

It was West Cork that put the ‘come hither’ on the ladies from Broadford as they planned their final outing before the ICA summer holiday, not that this

organisation ever hibernates for long! Millstreet with more recent memories of Eurovision, Macroom and Beal na Bláth, Beal Atha an Ghaorthaigh, Gougane and home of ‘The Tailor and Ansty were but some of the places visited by these West Limerick ladies. A very fitting grand finale until they resume next September when another outing, this time to Kildare where their retail therapy desires will once again be met in ‘The Village’ will be arranged.

In the meantime President Kitty Duggan, and her team will be planning many surprises for the rest of the year.

Baile Dhá Thuile /Leamhchoill

Comhgairdeas to Geraldine Cathalane of Ballyhahill/Loughill ICA who has recently retired from a long and distinguished career in the teaching profession.

This Clonmel native has had associations with ICA for many years, holding various positions within her guild including President. Geraldine also held the position of Federation Timire and was part of the National Education and Gaeilge Committee for a number of years. In wishing her well in this new phase of her life there is also the expectation of further involvement in Bantracht Na Tuaithe amach annseo.

Garden Party

It was one of those days the sun was shining; the food was great, the style unbelievable and not a cloud on the horizon. They came to An Grianán from all parts of the country to the annual ICA Garden Party. Amongst them were May O’Connor from Castlemahon who never misses this event and a large group from Crecora Guild.

What a perfect end to the day when National President, Anne Maria, together with some of the Limerick ladies gave a rendition of ‘Limerick you're a Lady’, accompanied by Noel, The Man in Black.

Congratulations to all who were part of this social occasion and well done to the winner of ‘The most Suitably Dressed for a Garden Party’Louisa Cuthbert, Castletown Guild, Louth Federation.

REPORTING SKILLS

Hindsight is wonderful! How many times did we wish, on looking through old photographs and trying to recall dates or even the year taken, that somebody had written some details on the back. What about updating your skills?

Perhaps an entry for the National ICA Trophy for Reporting 2009 might get you started. Write an article of approx 500 words on Promoting ICA in a local newspaper or in a women’s group. All entries to be typed on one side of paper only, double spacing and wide margins.

Forward it, together with en entry fee of €5, to National Contest Secretary Hilda Roche by Friday September 25th 2009
