Queens County Visit
Following on the various craft courses conducted at An GrianĂ¡n there has been
An upsurge in the number of members taking up Mountmellick work. To coincide with this Limerick interest an enthusiastic Anne Gabbett is now arranging a visit to the museum of such work in the County Laois town of Mountmellick.Of course it was an Abbeyfeale native, Sr Theresa Margaret McCarthy, a Presentation sister based in Mountmellick, who was instrumental in reviving this craft. She has enabled many to continue and pass on this embroidery craft and while now in advancing years and based in Kilcock, still has a wish that Mountmellick work may continue. .
This museum visit will take place on Wednesday August 26th with a coach departing from Southcourt Hotel at 10.30am and collecting members en route on the Dublin Road area. Anybody wishing to travel should contact Anne Gabbett (061) 228017 / (087) 6411656 as soon as possible as arrangements are now being finalised.
Lunch will be available at the Museum. A short film will follow on the history of the area, the Mountmellick Work, and the influence of the Quaker families there and a tour of the museum.
This promises to be a very interesting day out both for craft and non-craft persons
