National AGM

All counties were represented at the National ICA AGM in Adare last week with almost 400 delegates filling the conference hall. Naturally Limerick Federation was strong in numbers with many on duty from an early hour ensuring that all went smoothly. Everybody was registered with voting papers issued when the business commenced at 10.30am.Tellers Joan Riordan, Ardagh and Rita Horgan, Mainistir na Féile were very much in evidence as reports of the National Executive Board were approved, policy motions discussed, and the election of new Procedures Standing Orders Committee conducted. Among the Policy issues prioritised by the ICA as a focus for Policy and Advocacy work are

Children’s Rights, Disappearance of migrant children, Use of the Amber Alert system in Europe, Trafficking of Women and Violence against women.

It was farewell to many including Marie Hayes, from Cappamore who held the Limerick Federation Presidency for the past three years and congratulations to incoming officers including Peggy O’Brien from Cahir who is the new Munster Vice President.

Mar buille scoir what could be more fitting at this well organised and efficiently run AGM than all delegates singing ’Happy Birthday’ to nonagenarian May O’Connor of Castlemahon as National President Anne Maria Dennison presented her with a bouquet of flowers ?
