Limerick Federation ICA Notes Week ending October 6th


WELLNESS WORKSHOPS:-
Plans are underway for a “Wellness Workshop” in Limerick and it is good to see that The High Tea and Talk Parties are continuing in the guilds so please go out and give your support and bring along your friends. As Liz Wall, Ica National President said ICA is well placed in small communities to provide the ideal opportunity for people to come together and chat about the problems of our modern day lives.

CEIST AGUS FREAGRA :-
Congratulations to Aileen Healy of Pallaskenry Guild who was the winner of the Irish Competition at the recent Federation Meeting.This competition was organised by An Timire, Maura Walsh and everyone had a laugh “ag caint agus ag éisteacht”. Since its foundation the ICA has always encouraged Irish culture and language. The new Handbook advises that each Guild should annually elect a Timire representative. Her duties include, being an Irish speaker and encouraging bilingualism among the Guild members.

CRAFT WINNERS :-
The judge had great difficulty picking the winners in The Pin Cushion competiton. The ideas and creativity were amazing . For workmanship and attention to detail Maura Kenny of Murroe/Boher Guild was placed first with Peggy Ryan
of Cappamore second and Mary Blackwell also of Cappamore in third place. Annett Long, Craft Officer was delighted with all the wonderful entries.

POETRY WORKSHOP:-
Rita Horgan is organising a poetry workshop in Abbeyfeale on Saturday October 20th.This workshop is for people who have never written creatively but equally for those who have some experience already.It will use a highly interactive and hands on approach to explore
  • Where do poems come from?
  • Good techniques to “kick start” the poetry writing process
  • Using visual images for inspiration
  • Memory as a starting point
  • Modelling from well known poets
  • Fairy tales, bibles and broom-sticks
  • Expression and the personal value of creative writing
Come prepared to try out your poetic –wings.
The facilitator for the workshop is Mary Stenson Shanahan who lives in Abbeyfeale in West Limerick. Her poems have been published in Revival, the Limerick Anthology “What Worth the Head”? and The Full Stop Journal and she is included in an upcoming anthology entitled Dyslexia of the Heart which will be launched in 

Dublin in January 2013
Mary trained in Fine Arts in Limerick School of Art and Design and holds a Masters in Sociology from The University of Limerick where she works as a researcher and facilitator.

AROUND THE GUILDS:-
Murroe/Boher Guild is organising a Skills Sharing Day on Saturday October 13th from 2pm to 4.30pm in The Muintir Na Tire Hall Murroe. The aim of this day is to pass on some of our skills to the younger generation. For more info contact Maureen Kenny 087 1259750 They are also having Tea and Coffee for SoS on the same day so all support will be greately appreciated.
Caherdavin ICA meeting will be held on Thursday Oct11th in The Scout Hall Caherdavin.Mr Stephen Redden of Mint Garden Centre will bring a lot of different plants and give a talk on how to take care of your plants. These items will be sold afterwards. All are welcome on the night.
Drombanna Guild will hold a Coffee Morning in aid of Milford and SoS at Ballyneety Courthouse on Oct 

20th from 10.30 am to 1.30pm
Limerick City Guild are holding a Coffee Morning in the Augustinian Church on Friday Nov1st
All are welcome and proceeds go to Pieta House.
